  • poverty is a cause of crime

throughout history statistics have shown that poorer areas are more crime stricken than richer ones. i think it's safe to assume that most crimes start out as a crime out of necessity. It is true that crimes also happen out of greed, but this is not a question on what causes more crime.

  • Poverty IS a crime-causer

Since people who are poor can't afford all the requirements of a happy and healthy life, they have to steal or take from someone else what they need so that they can have it which is considered as a crime. Sometimes they don't do it because they need it, but because they want something.

  • Poverty causes crime

Poverty causes crime because if you do not have enough money to survive or to support your self or even to support a hole family you need to steel because you do not have that enough resources. Then you need to commite a crime to survive or to support yourself or a hole family.

  • Poverty causes Crime

Since people need the money to buy goods to survive, they make crimes to get the money, also, I know all make crimes, but graphics show that a higher percent of people that is through poverty make crimes, in my opinion, if I was through poverty, I would make crimes to get money for food, clothes, shelter, and drinkings.

For a rich person to make a crime, they would normally be on anger with the person they robbed or hunger of money.

  • I think that poverty is a cause of crime because some people that can't afford food sometimes rob food or robe something

I think that poverty is a cause of crime because some people that just don't have a living sometimes have to rob places of houses to get food, water ,etc I do think that poor living is a cause of crime.

Some people are just so frustrated that they lousy don't know what to do so they list rob.

  • People steal money to live.

Some cases people don't have a choice of living because of money. So one way or another they need money to live so they have to steal to keep alive themselves or their families so they don't die. In another cases people need to assault because of a need they have.

  • It is a cause of Crime

Poverty is surely the cause of crime, because other people like the government need money for their own goods and somehow they don't want to share that with their country or people that need it. Plus people will do whatever it takes to get money, they will not care about it.

  • As mentioned above, it depends on the type of crime, and the circumstances of those involved. If one just looks at the studies that show there is more crime in poverty-stricken neighborhoods, then this would imply that poor people are more likely to commit crimes, as if poor people have less morals. There is correlation, but correlation does not mean causation.

There is correlation, but correlation does not mean causation.

If we are speaking of violent crimes, then the correlation between poverty and crime may be there for reasons such as: desperation, unemployment, stress, lack of education, lack of opportunity, survival etc.

However, I do not believe it is the poverty alone that causes crime, it is the characteristics of the individuals, their family structure, their beliefs, self-control, personal goals, etc.

Millions of people are living in poverty, but only a  small amount resort to crime. Many poverty-stricken people will work night and day just as hard as any higher income person, to try and provide an honest living for their families. The majority of people living in poverty would never resort to crime. Again, it's not simply the poverty, but the mentality, experiences, and values of the individuals.

Now higher income businesses and neighborhoods are also filled with crime, but different types of crimes on different scales. The kind of crime that is not as "sensational" as the more violent crimes, and also it's crime that may go un-prosecuted as it is more organized and perhaps harder and more time consuming to prove, than say a shooting. Examples: Extortion, bribery, insurance fraud, business scams, embezzlement, identity theft, theft, employee discrimination, tax evasion, money laundering, forgery etc.

As for people living in poverty who choose to commit violent crimes, giving them money would not magically change their character. Some would still find a way to commit some type of crime because that is who they have become.
