PIMA — The Eastern Arizona Museum and Historical Society of Graham County Inc. annually sponsors Heritage Days. April 13 and 14 are the dates set for this year’s celebration.

The Historical Society is in its 55th year of operation, with its theme being “Fifty-five years of gathering, preserving and sharing history.”

To encourage the younger generation to think about their ancestors — their heritage — the museum board, for the second year, has added an essay contest to the activities.

The contest is open to students in grades 5-12 of all Gila Valley schools, as well as those being home-schooled.

Teachers have been furnished with guidelines and entry forms for “What My Heritage Means to Me.”

Entry deadline is Friday, March 23. A cash prize will be awarded in each category: grades 5-6 $75, grades 7-8 $100 and grades 9-12 $200.

The winners will have an opportunity to read their essays to a Heritage Days audience Saturday, April 14.

For further information contact Edres Barney at 928-485-3032.
